The Effects of Using Completion Technique to the Students’ Achievement in Learning Vocabulary

The study attempted to investigate learning vocabulary by using completion technique or without using completion technique is better to the students achievement in learning vocabulary. The objectives of this study was to find out the students’ achievement in learning vocabulary which was indicated by the students’ scores by using completion technique.
The population of this research was the the 2006/2007 second year’s student of SMU Negeri 1 xxxxxxx. There are two parallel classes in the second years. Based on the population was taken as the sample 40 students. They were divided into two groups : experimental group (using completion technique) and control group (not using completion technique).
The data were acquired by administrating objective test, which consisted of 20 items. The test was teacher-made test. This test was reliable, to be a test in using completion technique.
It was found out that the students achievement who are taught by using completion technique is better than the student who are taught without using completion technique. . Based on the t-table, with Degree of freedom/df 78 (n1+n2 – 2 = 40+40-2=78) at t-critical 0.05, it is obtain 2.00. if we compared the value of to and t1, so it shown that the value of t-observed is Lower than the value of t-table (to=3.06< t1=2.02) it mean that the Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected.
