The objective of this research is to find out To find out the effect of lexical approach on the students’ achievement in reading text and to analyze which one is higher, the students’ achievement taught by using lexical approach or the students’ achievement taught by not using lexical approach. The study investigates the effect using lexical approach or the students’ achievement taught by not using lexical approach, the data were obtained from SMP Negeri 1 xxxxxxxxxxxxx the Academic Year 2007-2008, and the sample is two parallel of eigh level class that consist of 40 students in 8A and 40 students in 8B, In collecting data of research used test, the essay test that made by the researcher, in this test the researcher was asked the student to explain/describe about the meaning of the sentence. the conclusion shows that the students’ achievement taught by using lexical approach is higher than the students’ achievement taught by not using lexical approach.
